Tango Silent Films is very pleased to debut in LA at Oxygen Tango’s Beginner’s Milonga. The Beginner’s Milonga is a celebration of new dancers and tango culture and it’s the perfect venue for screening “Oh My, What a Night!” which is a hilarious exploration of the many pitfalls and challenges of trying to find dances in the confusing world of the tango dance hall.

Dancers of all levels are very much encouraged to attend. This is a screening that you do not want to miss, plus you get to welcome in a whole new generation of dancers into your community!

Joe Leonardo, writer and director of the Tango Silent Films project will also be at the screening and visiting LA that weekend for the first time! He’s excited and looking forward to meeting and getting to know more dancers from the LA tango community.

Two Milongas in LA on March 30th!
A Special All-Nighter at Milonga Querida begins after Oxygen Tango’s Beginner’s Milonga. Come to both events and carpool between them with friends, if you can!

Congratulations to The Artist at the Academy Awards!

Congratulations to The Artist at the Academy Awards!

The Artist Film PosterFor the first time since 1929 a silent film was nominated and won an Academy Award for best picture. The Artist, picked up honors for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, as well as Best Costume Design and Best Original Music Score.

The story takes place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932 and focuses on the relationship of an older silent film star and a rising young actress, as silent films fall out of fashion and are replaced by the talkies. Most of the film itself is silent, except for the non-diegetic soundtrack; it was produced in black and white and in the older 4:3 aspect ratio.

The artists here at Tango Silent Films wish to congratulate the cast and crew of The Artist and their wonderfully inspiring film, illustrating that a breathtaking story, compelling acting, moving music, beautiful costumes and commitment can produce true art.

We are inspired to continue our exploration and development of these similar themes and techniques in Tango Silent Films. Thank you.

Tango Silent Films Fundraiser on IndieGoGO.com

From January 28th to March 28th 2012, Tango Silent Films is doing a fundraising drive through the site IndieGoGO.com. IndieGoGo is an social fundraising website (much like Kickstarter) that’s geared toward independent film and we are very excited to launch our first fundraising campaign through them.

Please visit our page and read more about our project and the fundraising campaign:

  1. We are a community-oriented, independent film company pursuing a totally original vision.
  2. We have already proven that we are capable of executing our vision beautifully, given the proper tools.
  3. Tango Silent Films Indiegogo Fundraiser PosterWe are producing a unique product with the potential to introduce the culture of Argentine tango music and dance in a creative & effective way to those who’ve never heard of it. Ultimately, TSF will promote the health and growth of the Argentine tango community worldwide.
  4. We are setting a precedent, showing how a tango community can pool its resources & find creative ways to channel our love of the dance and of our community into other art forms.
  5. Donating to the Tango Silent Films project is a reflection of the desire to support tango itself; to see it depicted with humor, self-awareness, sweetness, and tender authenticity.
  6. We believe that tango, a social dance, is about connection & community. By supporting our project you are connecting yourselves to us, joining our community (if you aren’t already a part of it), and participating more fully in our community (if you are). Even if you can only afford a small donation, it will connect you to our project & grow the TSF community!

We are incredibly proud & grateful to be supported by tango dancers. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT for the Tango Silent Films project to come into fruition!

Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about our project. See you soon at a milonga film screening!
